REVERB_REVIEWS: SXXN 'Heart Map'

Like an eagle soaring through the sunsoaked sky or a dolphin gliding through the cool, soothing seas, SXXN’s new extended play, Heart Map, offers listeners a beckoning experience.

Heart Map marks SXXN’s (2019 FCLMA nominee for best local electronic artist/FCLMA Rap Pack) third EP entry. While only approximately 2o minutes in length, each of the six ambient arrangements contained on Heart Map are contemplative and entrancing in tone.

Music Therapy

From “Light Chamber” all the way to “Drift”, each track feels like a marker on the journey. From one track (or, should I say “sensation”) to another, it wouldn’t be uncommon to feel as though you’re gazing up to a beautiful twilit sky, swimming consequence-free in the caverns of the deep or finding a quiet rock overlooking a peaceful lake surrounded by wilderness. It’s a deep and, might I say, therapeutic listen.

REVERB_REVIEWS: SXXN 'Heart Map'

When listening to Heart Map, I want to be immersed – I want to be a part of the journey. I want no distractions, I want only to be pulled into its splendor. The layers and textures of the music create a humbling dissonance that serve to draw us further inward.

My desire to listen to the EP in an undisrupted way, I feel, is an extension of SXXN’s intention with this release. It’s a welcoming into his sanctuary with the hope you find as much peace listening to it as he did making it. It’s very absorbing. If you’re looking to get away, let the heart map your way. The EP will be released independently on May 14, 2019.
