Tonight, Downtown London’s Victoria Park will be packed with citizens eager to usher in the new year. Start.ca is hosting the New Year’s Eve In The Park celebration, which will feature several notable local performers.
The Forest City London Music Awards will also be playing a large role in the festivities, showcasing some of London’s hard working musicians for the FCLMA Allstar Band.
Let’s take a few moments to get to know the Allstars, shall we?

Denise has performed with many great artists including acclaimed trombonist Ray Anderson, Gospel/Blues legend Jackie Richardson and Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook. She has opened for Aretha Franklin at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario.
She performed with symphony orchestras and festivals which have included the du Maurier Downtown Jazz Festival (Toronto), Ottawa Jazz Festival, The Royal Canadian Big Band Festival (London), Bluesfest (London), Waterloo Jazz Festival and Sunfest (London), among others.
Denise won best jazz artist in London, Ontario’s Music Awards in 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2008, 2009, and 2012. In April 2006 the Hyde Park Rotary presented her with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, Rotary’s highest honour. In 2008 and 2014 she won Jazz Artist of the Year at the Jack Richardson awards. In February 2009 the London Black History Committee honoured Denise with the Black Community Achievement Award in recognition of her accomplishments, contributions and support to her community. In April 2015 she was inducted into the London Music Hall of Fame. In November 2015 Denise received a honourary licentiate diploma from Conservatory Canada. Denise’s recording credits include seven CDs.
Darla Stratton is an award-winning vocalist from London, Ontario. Since an early age she’s had a passion for music. Her music career really began back in elementary/high school playing the flute, alto sax and singing in the school choir.
Later as a local luminary singing the National Anthem at local hockey games and other special events she garnered fans and attention. She was asked to join local Top 40 Cover Band Swagger in 2013. In 2017 Swagger was nominated for 2 London Music Awards “Fan Favourite” and “Tribute/Cover Band” of the year. The band captured the “Fan Favourite”, trophy becoming the only band to ever receive that honour. In 2018 Darla was named to the FCLMA Fantasy Band as Vocalist selected by Londoners.
Darla is excited to once again be sharing the stage with so many talented local musicians.
Sarina Haggarty has been involved in the music scene and FCLMA for less than 2 years and has already had an incredible experience.
After releasing 2 EP’s produced by unbelievable producers/engineers, selling out London’s top venues and winning Forest City London Music Award’s Fan Favourite in 2018, her journey keeps getting bigger. She had the chance to perform her first original song in a stadium beside Canada’s star Shawn Mendes – in front of 22,000 people and since then has been inspired to write and perform everyday in front of any size crowd.
Since 2017, she has been live on air all over sharing her story and her music. Sarina is grateful and excited to be a part of NYE 2019 in Victoria Park celebrating her hometown, London.
Tanya’s music career took shape from an early age, singing in her parent’s country band at the age of 3.
This London-born singer has just about covered the musical spectrum singing classic rock, country, classic pop, rhythm & blues, and a touch of modern pop. She currently belongs to three bands in London: Double Clutch Band (2018’s Winner of a JRLMA for Blues), London Rhythm And Soul Revue, and Uptown Affair. Each representing a different genre of music. As well as singing, she writes and dabbles in various musical instruments.
She is extremely honoured and proud to be included in this awesome band.
Scotty is best known as the lead singer/front-man of the Canadian rock band, After The Lounge. Bollert was born just outside of the small town of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. After a very short stint in Toronto in 1998 he moved to London, Ontario.
In 2001 guitarist Bryan Parsons and himself formed After The Lounge as an original group with rock dance covers playing an average 100 shows at year. In 2015 the following his roots of Jazz he created a “tribute” style show to perform called “A Taste of Sinatra” with music conductor and keyboardist, John Brocksom.
Bollert is an advocate for helping and developing young artists. He enjoys hockey, charity work, acting and modelling.
Poignant lyrics and an emotional voice” best describes Anne Moniz, who uses music to celebrate the human condition. Born and raised in London, Ontario, Moniz attended the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART), from which she graduated in 2015.
This year she co-produced and performed on London songstress Leanne Mayer’s debut EP “Bittersweet Remedy”.
Moniz dabbles in community theatre, as well, appearing on the overture with group Dervish State for the 2018 Pacheco Theatre production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning story ‘night, Mother.
Diverse as her interests may seem, her true love is her original project Nimway, a psychedelic rock revelation of her personal struggles and innermost thoughts. She independently released their debut EP in 2017 and it has since received international attention and airtime. “I am absolutely honoured to sing for and with my fellow Londoners this NYE!
Fil picked up the sticks at age ten and has been blessed to share the stage and record with many wonderful, talented musicians and artists throughout south western Ontario, parts of Canada and the U.S. for just over thirty years.
Kate Channer is an experienced professional rock performer with elements of pop, punk and rockabilly. She presents a commanding stage and will carry you with her powerful voice and musical talent through original music and cover tunes.
With Kate’s unique rock n roll vocals, the talent, and experience she possess along with a powerful stage presence, and a simple love of performing together, the Kate Channer Band produces a musical experience that transcends the sum of their respective talents into a musical experience with broad appeal. Kate Channer Band will take the listener on a journey from pop to soul and even country, with stops at all points in between. Kate’s original music is magnetically melodic, while cover songs always include a pinch of their own “spice” to refresh and peak interest.
Paul Aitken is a guitarist based in London, Ontario. He is an in demand session player and arranger who plays live and does studio work with a variety of Southwestern Ontario artists including Broomsticks & Hammers, Deni Gauthier, Marty Kolls Kevin’s Bacon Train, Kevin Greene & the Awesome Sauce, and many others. Under his own name he has two albums of original instrumental music. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance and Musicology (York), an MA in Musicology (McMaster), and a PhD in Communications and Media Studies (Leeds).
Paul Loeffelholz has been a musician and bass player for more than 39 years, performing in numerous musical styles. After Graduating MIA Music Industry Arts Program in recording engineering in the mid 80’s and touring Canada for years, he settled down in London Ontario where there were always numerous projects on the go.
Over the years he has been a long term bassist for artists such as Grant Smith and the Power, Bill Durst and performed one or more shows with artists such as Liberty Silver, Carlos Morgan, George Oliver, Bowser and Sha Na Na, Brian Volmer, Alfie Zappacosta, Doug Varty, Julia Haggarty, Scott Holt and many others. He is currently also involved with the band After the Lounge and numerous tribute shows .
Paul is also a qualified live sound engineer with production and has worked with bands and artists from Ashley Macisaac, John Allen Cameron, Allen Frew to Helix, London Blues Society and hundreds more over 29 years.
Alan Charlebois is an up and coming singer/songwriter, originally from Windsor Ontario, but now hailing from London. He has been a staple in the London bar scene, having performed 215 times in the past two years, most of which was in the city.
Well known for his booming voice and soulful songwriting, Alan has released 6 albums in the past 5 years, and is planning to release his newest (and BEST) solo album in 2019!
